The road geometry group was formed by the Nordic road directorates in 1983 with the purpose of exchanging experience in the field of road geometry and traffic technique. The group has since expanded the co-operation by including those institutes in Germany and the Netherlands, which are responsible in this field. The Nordic group holds a meeting once per year while the bigger North European group holds a meeting every second year.

The group has been responsible for a number of shared clearing and development projects.

Among clearing projects, seminars on the applied models for traffic capacity can be mentioned and among development projects the development of the Nordic Human Factors Design Guidelines and a simulation model for the description of ”run off the road accidents” in the side areas of the road. The group holds seminars on specific topics within the field with wider participation from the Nordic road sector.
